Provisional Psychologists
Provisional Psychologists have completed a 4-year honours degree and are now either enrolled in postgraduate study or in an approved internship program (like the one we run at The Talk Shop) where they work under the direct supervision of a Board-approved supervisor.
While seeing a Provisional Psychologist does not qualify for a Medicare rebate, it is an ideal choice if you’re looking for low-cost counselling without compromising quality. Our dedicated Provisional Psychologists are committed to helping you address your mental health concerns and provide valuable support on your therapeutic journey.
Registered Psychologists
Registered Psychologists are trained professionals who have completed a four-year undergraduate degree in psychology, followed by a postgraduate degree specialising in an area of practice endorsement (AoPE) or an internship pathway. They undergo supervised practice to develop practical skills and must be approved by the Psychology Board of Australia.
Registered Psychologists are equipped to assess, diagnose, and treat mental health issues, as well as promote psychological well-being. They play a crucial role in providing therapeutic services to individuals, couples, families, and organizations, helping them improve their mental health and overall quality of life.
Clinical Psychologists
Clinical Psychologists train for a minimum of 8 years and may be particularly helpful if you’re living with a complex, ongoing condition or one that’s proving difficult to diagnose or treat.
As Clinical Psychologists, we provide a wide range of psychological services to individuals for mental health conditions that range from mild to severe and complex. Clinical Psychologists are trained in the assessment and diagnosis of mental illnesses and psychological problems and are qualified to provide advice in clinical and compensation areas.
Counselling Psychologist
Counselling Psychologists provide a variety of techniques and therapeutic approaches that meet the specific needs and circumstances of clients.
We work in areas such as grief and loss, significant life transitions, developmental issues, relationship difficulties, domestic violence, sexual abuse/assault, trauma, maintaining healthy lifestyles, vocational assessment and career development.
In individuals, our work includes prevention, assessment, diagnosis and treatment, and ongoing monitoring of clients with mental health disorders, such as anxiety, depression and substance abuse, as well as more complex disorders such as post-traumatic stress disorder.
Clinical Neuropsychologist
With advanced skills in assessment, diagnosis and treatment planning of disorders, Clinical Neuropsychologists assess and treat people with brain disorders that affect memory, learning, attention, language, reading, problem-solving and decision-making.
As Clinical Neuropsychologists, we are trained to understand the cognitive, emotional and behavioural effects of a wide range of brain conditions that range from developmental and nutritional to endocrine-related, degenerative, traumatic and epileptic.
Forensic Psychologist
As Forensic Psychologists we use our legal and psychological knowledge to help individuals, government employees and organisations navigate the legal and criminal justice systems.
In legal proceedings, we use scientifically based principles to assess a client, collect evidence that relates to the psychology of the person, and table a report. The report is then used in evidence.
